Luckily, the adorable Ocelot is now a least concern for the endangered animals list. Still though, they are on the list and are apart of the animals we must save.

They are about the size of a dog and look like a leopard. The Ocelot has great vision and is nocturnal giving them night vision. They are extremely territorial and often engage in fights to the death for territory.

Least concern relates to ocelots as a whole. Albescens subspecies is critically endangered with fewer than 50-100 left in the us. This tiny population is very inbred and with more than half being males, reproduction is poor at best. Habitat loss is severe and continuing and roadkill is now the leading cause of death. The last American ocelot is almost a certainty, now.
ReplyDeleteIn Mexico, 200 miles away is the only related population. These number only a few thousand and they face the same problems.
