Lesser Panda (Ailurus fulgens)

The red panda is an endangered specie. It is extremely rare due to it's specific diet and habitat needs. I must say it is really adorable.

Wikipedia gives a lot of great information about the Red Panda, or Lesser Panda. Their threats section is not sited though, which means the information may not be correct. Still the other areas provide reliable resources.

Marine Otter (Lutra felina)

I was very upset to see one of my favorite animals on the endangered species list. The Marine Otter is one of the most overlooked endangered animals there are.

Are all endangered animals protected?
The answer to that question is no. The Otter was unprotected for a while, but now are legally protected. Even with that though, no laws are enforced. Poachers still poach and will must likely not get caught or punished.

Poachers are not their only enemy though. Many of the Marine Otters are killed by sharks, Orcas, and even sea birds.

Help!

There are things you can do to help out these animals!
  • Plants some trees as houses for birds.
  • Try using less chemicals on your lawn and plants.
  • Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse.
  • Join some of the groups that help maintain habitats.
  • Tell people and tell the world, don't just pretend to help.
  • Remember, one person can make a difference.
We can save these animals and bring back what we have destroyed, it just takes time.

Texas Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis albescens)

Luckily, the adorable Ocelot is now a least concern for the endangered animals list. Still though, they are on the list and are apart of the animals we must save.

They are about the size of a dog and look like a leopard. The Ocelot has great vision and is nocturnal giving them night vision. They are extremely territorial and often engage in fights to the death for territory.

Indiana Bat

An endangered specie from my very own state, the Indiana Bat, has been endangered since 1967. They look like your average bat although they are a bit smaller, about two inches.
The main cause of the Indiana Bats being put on the endangered species list are:
  • Humans have altered cave entrances and/or destroyed them.
  • Hibernating bats are often disturbed by humans.
  • The loss of habitat is the biggest factor.
  • Pesticides are also killing many of the bats.
